Apple Jam – “How To Make” Recipe From The Jam Jar Shop

Britain’s favourite Bramley apples are in season in October. Why not forego the predictable apple pie and make a delicious jam out of them instead? Packed with just as much flavour, we give you the recipe for enjoying this sweet treat in your front room. We also have jam jars so you can store it properly.
Recipe Ingredients
- 1kg Bramley apples, peeled, cored and chopped
- ½ lemon - juiced
- 250g caster sugar
- 1 cinnamon stick
Recipe Equipment
- Jam Jars
- 2 Sterilised Small Saucers
- Large saucepan
- Ladle or Wooden Spoon
HOW TO MAKE APPLE JAM
- Make sure your apples have been peeled, cored and chopped
- Put 2 small plates in the freezer to test later
- Place the chopped apples into your large saucepan
- Tip in the caster sugar along with 350ml of water
- Ensure it is simmering and stir in to dissolve the sugar
- Keep stirring regularly while gently cooking for around 30 mins
- Once the apples have collapsed, stir in the lemon juice
- Add the cinnamon stick for an extra kick
- Simmer gently for about 2-3 mins until the mixture is thick and gooey
- Take the small plate out of the freezer and put a small amount of mixture on it
- Test it by pushing it lightly with your finger or a spoon
- If it is still runny, simmer the mixture on heat for 10-15 mins
- Test again by using the plate from the freezer once time has elapsed
- Scoop your jam into sterilised jars
- Store in a cool, dark place for up to 3 months
- Once opened, use within 1 month
