Butterscotch Sauce – “How To Make” Recipe From The Jam Jar Shop

Recipe Ingredients

  • 125g/4oz butter
  • 170g/6oz soft brown sugar
  • 125g/4oz granulated sugar
  • 275g/10oz golden syrup
  • 240ml/8 fl oz double cream
  • Few drops of vanilla essence

Recipe Equipment

  • Large preserving pan
  • Wooden spoon
  • Jam Jars - We recommend a pack of 8oz Jars or a pack of 8oz Hexagonal Jars
  • Muslin cloth
  • Cellophane covers & waxed discs


  1. Place the butter and sugars in a medium pan together with the golden syrup
  2. Heat slowly until everything has melted and the sugars dissolved
  3. Continue to heat for a further 5 mins.
  4. Turn off the heat
  5. Gradually stir in the cream and follow with the vanilla essence
  6. Stir for a further 2-3 mins or until the sauce is absolutely smooth

Can be used immediately and served hot or cold

Will keep for several weeks in the fridge
